Obituary of Barbara M. Aaron
Barbara M. Aaron, 63, of 111 Erie St. Lakewood, NY, went to be with the Lord at 10:18 p.m. Saturday (April 27, 2013) in her home.
She was born October 5, 1949 in Lakewood, NY a daughter of the late Maurice and Jeanette Ericson Rashley.
Barb graduated from Southwestern High School and immediately found employment as a legal secretary, working for several law offices in the area including the law offices of Robert Bootey, Tuby Scarpino, Howard Crossley and James Subjack. She continued this work for the next 20 years while raising two sons and maintaining a loving household for them. Since her youngest son was mentally retarded and physically handicapped, she spent a great deal of her life making sure all of his physical and schooling needs were met. This required many trips to doctor's offices and the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Erie, PA. In addition to these efforts, Barbara was actively involved in her church, the Jamestown Community Chapel formerly Weakland Chapel, where she served as church Treasurer and Secretary at various times throughout the years. She also served as Chairperson of the Christian Women's Club.
After her marriage to Mike in 1993, she decided to become a full time housewife and mom for her family. Over the past years, she has devoted her efforts to helping elderly friends who needed an extra hand doing things such as rides to the doctor or to pick up medicine and groceries. This was her ministry of service freely given. She became known as the Woman of Prayer; as many acquaintances would call in desperate need of fervent prayers. Rather than tell them that she would prayer for them later, the praying was done immediately over the phone. It seems that Barbara was a righteous person who God listened and responded to almost immediately. People saw the results of this prayer warrior time after time.
Surviving are two sons Todd A. Mattson and Scott A. Mattson of West Ellicott, a sister Joanne (Duane) Smith of Busti, a brother Sam (Karen) Gross of Charleston, W.VA, three step-daughters Ann Trumble of Mequon, WI, Sabra Aaron of Albuquerque, N.M., amd Kathryn Aaron of Louisville, KY.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Michael D. Aaron whom she married March 12, 1993 and who died April 1, 2013.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
A memorial service honoring both Barbara and Michael Aaron will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Jamestown Community Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Keefe, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Busti Cemetery.
