Obituary of Rita Lee Rosedahl
Rita Lee Rosedahl, 95, of 35 Meadow Lane Jamestown, died Thursday (March 25, 2010) in WCA Hospital.
She was born July 16, 1914 in Kane, PA the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Genevieve Flaherty Lee.
Rita was a 1933 graduate of Jamestown High School, a 1936 graduate of Fredonia Normal School, and received her BS in Education from Fredonia State in 1956.
From 1951 until her retirement in 1976, she taught in the Jamestown Public School System at the former Fairmount School.
Rita was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and was Past Recording Secretary, Vice President, and Historian. Rita was a member of the Interclub Council and was awarded Women of the Year in 1988. She was also a member of United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary; Marvin Community House serving as Past President and member of Trustees and Governing Board; Past President from 1994 to 1996 of the American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation; member since 1976 of the WCA Hospital Aux and volunteer in the Gift Shop; member of AARP where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 1988; member of the Senior Center; Roger Tory Peterson Institute; Jamestown Audubon Nature Center; Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Aux; Association of University Women; and the Jamestown Concert Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Flanders (Dan) of Marcellus, NY; a son, David Rosedahl (Linda) of Hopkins, MN; four grandchildren, Julie Flanders Scripa (Wayne) of Marcellus; Kristin Elise Flanders of Manlius, NY; Erik Rosedahl (Colleen) of Arlington, VA; Daniel Rosedahl (Leslie) of St. Paul, MN; and two great grandchildren, Nathaniel Scripa and Luke Flanders.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Evans H. Rosedahl whom she married November 6, 1941 in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and who died December 22, 1997; three sisters, Ella Starner, Anna VanDervort, and Camilla Lee; and three brothers, Walter, John, and Harry Lee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 6, 2010 in Holy Apostles Parish, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor, will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday April 5, 2010 in the Lind Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Monday.
