Obituary of Donald E. Anderson

Donald E. "Uncle Don" Anderson, 87, of 2 Munson Rd., Kennedy, died Wednesday April 7, 2010, in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown native, he was born December 26, 1922, a son of Emil and Selma Svensson Anderson. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed by Dawson Metal for 31 years as a brake operator. He earlier had worked for National Worsted Mills and managed Midway Park's skating rink. He was a member of Thule Lodge and the Vikings. He was a kind, generous man who loved to be with people many of whom called him Uncle Don. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, a good game of cribbage, music, cross stitching, cooking and playing the organ and accordion. Surviving are sisters-in-law Joyce Anderson of Kennedy and Leona Anderson of Jamestown, nieces and nephews Richard and Barb Anderson, Roger and MaryAnn Anderson, Denis and Joan Leonard, Gary and Pat Leonard, Joseph and Murlene Anderson, Thomas and Murial Anderson, Paul and Nancy Anderson, Brian and Peggy Anderson, Schenley and Virginia Anderson, Delford Anderson, Jr., Vickie and Bryan Champlin, Autumn Haines and Diane Sturzenbecker, many great nieces and nephews and good friends David and Dottie Munson. He was preceded in death by five brothers Arthur, Ernest, Kenneth, Robert and Delford Anderson, a sister Astrid Leonard and a niece Cindy Leonard A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Hill Cemetery Chapel. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701 or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by the Lind Funeral Home.
