Obituary of Donald H. Greenwald

Donald H. Greenwald, 81, of 2534 Palm Rd. Jamestown and New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away at 3:35 p.m. Saturday (April 3, 2010) in the Southeast Volusia Care Center, Edgewater, FL while in the care of Volusia-Flagler Hospice. A lifelong area resident he was born September 29, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Clarence and Esther Lane Greenwald. He was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School and had attended Jamestown Community College. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 21, 1952 to October 20, 1953 during the Korean War. During his tour of duty he had received the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, the United Nation Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Before his retirement in 2007, he was employed by the Chautauqua Lake Association for 14 years and had earlier worked for the Chautauqua County Highway Department for over 20 years where he was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church and was attending the Christ First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Chautauqua County Koinonia Community and the Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings. Surviving are his wife the former Dolores Sandquist whom he married October 23, 1949, two sons William (Debbie) Greenwald of Fairview, PA, Robert (Orrissa) Greenwald of Jamestown, NY, five grandchildren Marie Greenwald, Timothy Greenwald both of Fairview, PA, Andrea Greenwald of Palm Beach, FL, Melissa Buttafaro of Houston, TX, Jeff Greenwald of Jamestown, a brother Lester (Jeannie) Greenwald of Celina, TX and a sister Beatrice Rininger of Jamestown, NY. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother C. Edward Greenwald. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas M. Knopp, pastor of the Christ First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Southeast Volusia Care Center, 4140 S.
