Obituary of John F. Connors

Major John F. "Jack" Connors, 83, of 39 Coachlight Dr. Gerry, NY formerly of 130 Cole Ave. Jamestown, NY and Florence, KY was promoted to glory and entered his heavenly home at 2:45 a.m. Monday (April 12, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. A Jamestown area resident since 1995 he was born February 16, 1927 in Boston, Mass. a son of the late Frank and Mary Sullivan Connors. Before his retirement in 1992 he was a Salvation Army Corp Officer for over 40 years serving throughout the east coast. He and his late wife dedicated their lives to the Salvation Army and took great pride in their calling to serve other people. He was a member of the Standard Bearers Session. He entered the New York Training School from the Boston (Bowdoin Square) Corps in 1949 and following his training served in the following appointments with the Salvation Army. He was an Assistant Corps Officer from 1950 to 1952 in Stamford, CT, Greensburg, PA, Franklin, PA and Homestead, PA. He then became a Corp Officer and served as such from 1952 to 1992 in Vandergrift, PA, Monessen, PA, Meadville, PA, Lewistown, PA, Norristown, PA, Greenfield, MA, and Boston Central in Boston, MA. He also worked in the Divisional Headquarters as a Divisional Secretary-Services to Aging in 1977 and from 1981 to 1989 was a Corp Chaplain in Flushing, NY and Florence, KY. Jack retired from active service in 1992 and first settled in Florence, KY before moving to Jamestown in 1995. Surviving are a son Ronald L. Connors of Windsor Locks, CT, two grandchildren Caitlin Connors of Cummington, MA, Erinn Connors of Shelburne Falls, MA, a great grandson Cayden Beckwith and a brother Elmer Connors of Naples, FL. Besides his parent she was preceded in death by his wife the former Grace M. Hotchkiss Connors whom he married September 3, 1953 and who died July 19, 2008 and a brother Donald Connors. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army. Maj. Richard Best, Maj. Randall Davis and Maj. Les Bussey will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Salvation Army.
