Obituary of Joan R. Nelson

Joan R. Nelson, 78, of Jamestown and Port Saint Lucie, FL, died Tuesday April 27, 2010, in Port Saint Lucie Medical Center. Born August 15, 1931 in Jamestown NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard L and Virginia Maxson Rugg Sr. A graduate of Lakewood High School, Joan was employed as a dental assistant to various dentists in the area prior to retirement. Her memberships included the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and Spanish Lake Riverfront Association. She, along with her mother, was active committee members of the Resource Center. She enjoyed her years working thru the Elks club for the Easter Seal Society. She was a huge Johnny Mathis fan! Joan's artistic ability ranged from the pastel drawings her children treasure to her flair for decorating. She was always up for a shopping excursion with her daughters. She especially enjoyed and loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and soon to be new great grandchild. Surviving is her husband Lauritz (Lefty) Nelson whom she married March 15, 1952. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary with a cruise. Also surviving are three children Karie (John) Carlson of Jamestown, Kathy (Richard Crawford) Lee of Cooperstown, PA and Kelly (Tim) Seymour of Port Saint Lucie, eight grandchildren Rhonda (Matt) Prusak of Avon, OH, Kendra Carlson of Baden, PA, Olivia Carlson of Jamestown, Timothy and Nathaniel Lee of Oil City, PA, Kelsey Lee of Richmond, VA, Heidi Seymour of Port Saint Lucie and Corey Seymour of Monroeville, PA, four great grandchildren and a sister Patricia A. Rugg of Port Saint Lucie and Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Richard L. Rugg, Jr. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Inurnment will be in Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
