Obituary of Raymond L. Jensen
Raymond L. Jensen Sr., 83, formerly of the Hotel Jamestown Senior Housing, died at 7:20 p.m. Thursday (April 29, 2010) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born April 28, 1927 in Jamestown the son of the late Carl and Margaret Bratt Jensen.
Ray was a sheet metal worker and in earlier years worked at Dahlstrom Mfg. For 16 years, he served in the US Navy on the USS Missouri, USS Calvert, USS Saratoga, USS Gainard, and USS Roosevelt. He received the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and European Occupation Medal.
Ray was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church; RSVP; Ira Lou Spring Post American Legion; a volunteer at Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, and the veteran's project at City Hall. In 2006, he was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award which recognized his dedication to volunteer service. He enjoyed helping out his friends at Frame Masters, scuba diving, fishing, photography, especially nature, and walking. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan and sports card collector.
He is survived by his three children, Margaret C. Jensen of Dunkirk; Raymond L. Jensen Jr. of Lockport; Katheryn Chamberlin of Jamestown; six grandchildren, Lisa Dale, Michael Dziubinski, Katina Glenn, Chad Raymond, Alec Jensen, Sean Jensen; five great grandchildren, Josh Anzalone, Ayla Myers, Brittany Glenn, Colin and Jason Dziubinski; two great great grandchildren, Alexis Chamberlin, Karley Myers; a sister, Mary Ann Litzinger; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Sadler.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial with full military honors will be in Soldiers Circle in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
