Obituary of Verlie O. Woodruff

Verlie O. Woodruff, 88, of 304 East Elmwood Ave. Falconer, NY passed away on Friday (April 30, 2010) in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA where she had been a patient for the past week. An area resident for most of her life she was born May 10, 1921 in Franklinville, NY a daughter of the late Leon and Ada White Woodruff. She was a 1937 graduate of Tenbrock Academy in Franklinville and also attended the Westbrook Academy in Olean which is now the Olean Business Institute. Before her retirement in 1981 she was employed as the office manager for the Jamestown office of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where she worked for 38 years. While spending the winter months in South Carolina she attended the Florence South Carolina Presbyterian Church and was active with the local Metropolitan Retirees Club for many years. She will be remembered as a loving and caring Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her metropolitan friends for lunch and dinner. She is survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews and her special neighbors Jim and Karen Carrow. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, two brothers Earl and Norman Woodruff , three sisters Hazel Dawley, Una Krotz, Lila Folts and four nephews. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville, NY. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
