Obituary of Doris L. Berg

Doris L. Berg, 90, formerly of 147 Hotchkiss St. and Carlson Towers, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 22, 1919 in Frewsburg, a daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Thayer Bragg. A graduate of Jamestown High School, she had been employed for many years by AAA of Jamestown. Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had done a great deal of volunteering through RSVP and in 2003 been named RSVP Volunteer of the Year by the United Way. She had also volunteered at WCA Hospital. In August 2008, Doris' name was added to the Gustavus Adolphus Family Services Wall of Fame, an honor given to former residents of the home. She is survived by a daughter, Sheila B. Dunn and a son, G. Michael (Candace) Berg, both of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Christine (Yoav) Bachrach of Birmingham, AL, Erika (Jon) Stanat of Rochester, NY, Joshua (Kristy) Berg of Erie, PA, Jacob (Carla Ferraloro) Berg of Jamestown, and Joel, Jordan and Jillian Berg, all of Jamestown; and seven great-grandchildren: Sivanne and Aitan Bachrach of Birmingham, Lukas, Olin and Aksel Stanat of Rochester, Noah Berg of Erie and Brielle Berg of Jamestown. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Berg, whom she married April 12, 1940 and who died May 1, 1975; a daughter, Randa Joy Nivala who died July 23, 1997; as well as two sisters and two brothers. The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt and the Rev. John P. Saraka will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in Christ Chapel at the Lutheran Home Wednesday.
