Obituary of Herbert L. Erickson

Herbert L. Erickson, 97, formerly of Lakewood, NY died at 11:30 p.m. Friday (February 19, 2010) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. He had been a resident of the Lutheran Campus since 1993. A lifelong area resident he was born November 21, 1912 in Brocton, NY a son of the late Ernest and Eva Linner Erickson. The family moved to Jamestown where he was a graduate of Jamestown High School. Following graduation he served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Montana and Florida. He returned to Jamestown and was employed by the Jamestown Telephone Company and its successors for 38 years working as an installer and repairman. Mr Erickson was a longtime member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Lakewood and was a life member of the Jamestown Moose Lodge 1681 where he served as Past Governor and received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. He also served as a long time volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Surviving are a daughter Sharon (Ronald) Ogren of Orchard Park, NY, a son James (Janet) Erickson of Stow, OH, a granddaughter Kristen (Jeffrey) Gardner of Lakewood, OH, two great grandsons Evan and Isaac Gardner, a sister Betty Thomas of Jamestown and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years the former Muriel Moore Erickson whom he married July 16, 1938 and who died May 26, 1994, three sisters and two brothers.
