Obituary of Astrid Nelson

Astrid Nelson, 93, of Hobe Sound, FL. formerly of 2786 Nelson Rd. Jamestown died Tuesday (May 25, 2010) in the Virtua Medical Center, Marlton, NJ. A 65 year resident of the Stillwater area, she was born November 9, 1916 in Brocton, NY a daughter of the late Nels P. and Anna Anderson Nelson. Following her high school graduation she received her Licensed Practical Nurses training from the Brooks Memorial Hospital. Before her retirement in 1979, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse at W.C.A. Hospital where she worked for 22 years. She had also worked for the former Bittersweet Nursing Home and Bigelow's Department Store. She had attended the Stillwater United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Sacagawea Sunday School Class. She will be remembered by her family as an avid gardener and reader. She was also a wonderful babysitter for her family and loved playing games with the children. She will also be remembered as being a servant to everyone throughout her life and was a faithful card writer to her whole family, sending cards and letters for every occasion. Surviving are many loving and caring nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers Everett, Archie and Clarence Nelson and three sisters Selma G. Berg, Ingeborg Johnson and Pearl Carlson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Faith Luce, a close family friend will officiate. Burial will be in the Busti Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7-8 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
