Obituary of Lorraine Allenson

Lorraine M. Allenson, 78, of 2011 Willard St. Ext., Jamestown died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday (May 30, 2010) in her home. An area resident for most of her life she was born May 15, 1932 in Buffalo, NY a daughter of the late William and Dorreen Moore Engdahl. Before her retirement she was employed as a head cashier for the former Woolworths Department Store for more than 20 years. In earlier years she had worked for the Marlin Rockwell Corporation. Following her retirement she babysat for many families in her home where she took care of several generations of families over the years. She was such a caring and giving person who loved taking care of children. She attended the Family Church and was a member of the Stillwater United Methodist Church. She and her late husband were youth leaders for over 20 years at the Stillwater church. She will be remembered as one who loved to attend her grandchildren's programs of music and dance. She was often found watching children she cared for ice skate and play hockey at the former Allen Park Ice Rink and most recently at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena. Surviving are a son Michael W. Allenson of Stillwater, a daughter Susan (Frank) Smeragliuolo of Jamestown, three grandchildren Jamie (Alan) Teator of Copperas Cove, TX, Sarin Smeragliuolo of Columbus, OH, Gina Smeragliuolo of Jamestown, a great granddaughter Angelina Teator, a sister Carolyn (Bill) Beck of Phoenix, AZ and also by her caregivers, who were like angels to her, Sandy Wallin and Pat Portale. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin T. Allenson whom she married December 31, 1950 and who died December 15, 1996. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Family Church on Garfield Rd. The Rev. Timothy Stahlman will officiate. Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
