Obituary of Stephen A. Maisto

Stephen A. Maisto, 87, of 10 Carolina Street, died Thursday June 3, 2010, in WCA Hospital. A Jamestown native, he was born November 15, 1922, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Miglino Maisto. He was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran having served in the US Navy from 1942-46 and 1947-52. He joined the Jamestown Police Department in 1954 working his way up through the ranks of beat patrol, mobile patrol, detective and platoon lieutenant retiring in 1975. Following retirement he worked security for Marlin Rockwell retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish St. John Catholic Church. He was a member of Kendal Club, having served as a two term president, John W. Tiffany Post #53 VFW, Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion and the Jamestown Moose Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, wood working, his pet cats, and his many nieces and nephews. He was also an avid reader. Surviving is a daughter Gloria and son-in-law Bob Cohen of Rockaway, NJ. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife the former Esther Smith, whom he married July 31, 1948 and who died October 31, 2007, an infant son Joseph Maisto, six sisters, Linnea and Mary Maisto, Yolanda Traniello, Giocanda Paladino, Queenie Billgren and Ida Carlson, and a brother Alfred Maisto. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Apostles Parish St. John Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:45 p.m. You may light a candle in remembrance of Steve at www.lindfuneralhome.com
