Obituary of Durwood C. Beach
Durwood C. Beach, 94, of 187 Yolande Avenue, West Ellicott, passed away Monday June 7, 2010, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A native of Randolph, he was born October 22, 1915, a son of Guy L. and Olive Carlson Beach.
He graduated from Randolph Central School in 1933.
Prior to his retirement he owned and operated Gardner and Beach General Store in Conewango Valley for 30 years.
A member of the Conewango Valley United Methodist Church, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Cherry Creek Masonic Lodge #384 F & AM, he also enjoyed golfing for over 70 years and bowling in early years.
Surviving are a son D. Thomas (Carol) Beach of Portland, OR; two grandchildren Kim (Ronald) Christensen and Kevin Beach both of Portland; four great grandchildren; Lana and Anne Christiansen, Johnathan and Crystal Beach all of Portland; a brother Robert (Jean) Beach of Randolph; a sister Patricia Gardiner of Warren, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Grace Louise Gardner, whom he married November 25, 1936 and who died August 28, 1997; his mother in 1927, his father in 1955, stepmother Alice Beach Goodrich in 2006, and an infant brother Max Edward Beach in 1919.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry McCann and Pastor Mark J. Hinman of Hillcrest Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Randolph Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Sunday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Conewango Valley United Methodist Church or a charity of choice.
