Obituary of Clare R. Smith

Clare R. Smith, 103, formerly of Oil City, PA, died at 10:05 p.m. Thursday (June 10, 2010) at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. She was the widow of the late Leo T. Smith, whom she married October 21, 1931 in East Randolph, NY and who died November 4, 1989. A Jamestown resident since 2001, Clare was born November 10, 1906 in Tionesta, PA, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Mealy Wertz. She is survived by a niece, Barbara (Alan) Swanson of Jamestown with whom she had made her home; and four grand nieces and nephews, Dale (Neena) Swanson of West Seneca, NY, Sue (Len) Comella of Jamestown, Brenda (Glen) Hughes of Medina, OH and James (Kris) Swanson of Lakewood, NY. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Brown and three brothers, Charles, Allison and Fred Wertz. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman R. Gauch will officiate. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City.
