Obituary of Suzan L. McDowell

Suzan L. McDowell, 64, of 116 Waldemere Way, Lakewood, NY passed away at 1:25 a.m. Sunday (June 13, 2010) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident she was born February 8, 1946 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Ralph E. Slagle and the late Shirley Hager Spring. Suzan was a graduate of the Continental School of Beauty, and for over forty years had worked as a beautician with her mother at the former Shir-Lee Shoppe in Jamestown. There she had established a lifelong customer base and friendships she truly cherished. Her favorite pastimes were knitting baby garments for family and friends, hand painting ceramics, cooking and playing bingo. Surviving are her husband Delavin A. McDowell whom she married March 21, 1969, a son Shawn M. (Aindrea) McDowell, two grandsons Kieran and Kellan McDowell of Plantsville, CT. and her step-mother Edna Slagle of West Ellicott. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father James N. Spring and a daughter Lori Lynn Johnson. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY to support Suzan's love for all animals, especially cats.
