Obituary of R. Wayne Anderson

R. Wayne Anderson, 71 of Salisbury, NC, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born June 5, 1938, in Jamestown, he was the son of Lucille Gotts Anderson Taylor of Weirsdale, Fla., and the late Ralph O. Anderson. He was a graduate of Southwestern Central High School, the New York State Police Academy, the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Va., and held an Associate's Degree from JCC and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Empire State College. Mr. Anderson was a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, an Eagle Scout, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed for 24 years by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department and was a sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division when he retired in 1987. A Certified Scuba Diver, Sergeant Anderson also participated in the county's Water Emergency Team. Mr. Anderson was a life-long Lutheran and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He was a member of the American Legion, the Vikings Lodge and Moose Lodge, all in Jamestown, and the Spencer Moose Lodge 2019, Spencer, N.C. He was an avid life-long Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Polly Kightlinger Anderson, whom he married April 1, 1994; sons, Michael (Mary) Anderson of San Diego, Calif., Randall (Mary Ann) Anderson of Newark, Ohio, and David (Brenda) Anderson of Lexington, N.C.; step-daughter, Laura Kightlinger of Los Angeles, Calif.; former wife, Carol Anderson of Sedona, Ariz.; sisters, Beverly (Guy) Carlson of Sinclairville, and Barbara (Ken) Foster of Nunica, Mich.; brother, Barry R. Anderson of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Reception will follow the service until 6:00 pm at The Tsintzinian Society (The Greek Club), 113 Jackson Ave., Celoron.
