Obituary of Donald L. Whitney
Donald L. Whitney, 89, of 3175 Swede Hollow Road, Sugar Grove, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday (June 19, 2010) at the Rouse Warren County Home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born June 7, 1921 in Jamestown, a son of the late Charles and Helen Stoddard Whitney.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 8th Armored Division during World War II.
A certified welder, he had been employed by the former Watson Manufacturing and retired in 1984 from Dawson Metal.
Don enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Pangborn Whitney whom he married December 20, 1941; a son, Ronald (Susan) Whitney of Sugar Grove; two grandchildren: Thomas (Tonya) Whitney of Sugar Grove and Deborah (Jay) Dorsett of Melbourne, FL; four great-grandchildren: Danielle Bradish, Brodie Whitney, Brielle Whitney, and Ericka Rhoden; and a sister, Virginia Labor of New Mexico.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Chuck Whitney.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pastor Billy Hughes of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends will be received for hour prior to the service at Sunset Hill Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
