Obituary of Mary S. Childs

Mary S. Childs, 94, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of the Goodell Home and 230 Indiana Avenue, died Wednesday June 23, 2010, in WCA Hospital. A native of Jamestown, she was born November 7, 1915, the daughter of Ernest and Gertrude Meyers Strand. She received a master's degree in education from Buffalo State Teachers College and was employed by Jamestown Public School System as head of the Home Economics Department. She was a member of First Congregational Church, was past president of the Zonta Club of Jamestown and was a past active hospital volunteer. Surviving are a stepson Robert (Audrey) Childs of Hinsdale, NY, a stepdaughter Charlotte (Richard) Wheaton of Lake Ann, MI; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George T. Childs whom she married in 1971 and who died in 1972 and two stepsons James and William Childs. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
