Obituary of Joseph Armeli
Joseph Armeli, 84, of 15 Filbert St. died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday (March 21, 2010) in his home following a brief illness.
An area resident since coming to the United States in 1968, he was born August 5, 1925 in Tortorici, Sicily, Italy a son of the late Joseph and Carolina Armeli.
In earlier years he served in the Italian Army while growing up in Italy.
Before his retirement he was employed as a foundry worker for the Jamestown Iron Works where he worked for over 20 years.
He was a communicant of the Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. His family will remember him as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved to hunt and spend time in his garden.
Surviving are his wife the former Antoinette Calanni whom he married September 19, 1951, three son's Antonino "Tony" Armeli of Ashville, Calogero "Joe" (Nancy) Armeli, Salvatore "Sal" Armeli (Cindy Taylor) all of Jamestown, five grandchildren Laurie Mattson, Antoinette (Rick) Constantino, Joe (Ashley) Armeli, Rachel Armeli all of Jamestown, Alecia Armeli of Ashville, four great grandchildren Caleb Mattson, Nandi Pedro, Gabriella Armeli, Joseph Armeli, IV and four sisters Sebastiana Calanni, Gaitana Casella, Maria Butta, Carmella Gimbo all of Italy.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Antonio "Tony" Armeli and a sister Rosina Armeli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Service will be led by Rev. Mende at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
