Obituary of Raymond Weldon Lawyer
Raymond Weldon Lawyer, 90, formerly of Stillwater, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday (March 16, 2010) in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born July 30, 1919 in Jamestown, the son of Merrill Albert and Esther Jane Greenwood Lawyer.
Raymond was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School. He won the Civil Pilot Air Training Course in September 1941 which was awarded by the local Civic Aeronautic Authority sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce after 6 to 8 months training. He was awarded his commercial license with instructors rating at the Connellsville Airport in Uniontown, PA. Raymond served as a civilian flight instructor for the US Air force and served as flight captain with the China National Aviation Corp. on the China-India routes. He was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States. Prior to retirement, he had worked at Ring Punch and Die for 21 years, and previously at Anderson Cleaners for 17 years. For many years, he was a model train enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bratt Lawyer whom he married July 14, 1962; a nephew, Timothy Barron of Ashville; a great niece, Michelle Worden; and two great nephews, Mathew and Mitchell Barron.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine Lawyer Barron who died in 1996.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday March 20, 2010 in Seeley Auditorium on the Heritage Village Retirement Campus. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler will officiate.
Burial will be in Stillwater Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in Seeley Auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
