Obituary of Doris C. Velander

Doris C. Velander, 84, formerly of the Hunt Road Apartments and the Dibert Home, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday (March 11, 2010) at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Jamestown on December 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Axel and Olga Forslef Velander, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1944. Doris had been employed in the accounting department of the former Alltel, Inc. for 44 years, nine of them in Syracuse, and retired in 1988. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was active in Lutheran Christian Women and the choir, and belonged to the Marvin House and the Mozart Club. Doris was also a volunteer at WCA Hospital. Surviving are her cousins, Astrid Nordstrom of Sweden, Annalane Forslef Tarbert of Washington, Alice Carlson, Paul Wahlstrom and Arthur Wahlstrom all of Jamestown, and her caregiver for many years, Helen Weaver of Jamestown. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman R. Gauch will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
