Obituary of Althea M. Johnson
Althea M. Johnson, 91, of 26 Cobbe Circle West Ellicott, died at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday (March 9, 2010) in WCA Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1918 in Dunkirk, NY the daughter of the late Henry C. and Jessie Dragget Bremmer.
Althea was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and Fredonia State Teachers College where she did her graduate work as a reading specialist. Well respected by her students and colleagues, she began her teaching career at Frewsburg Central for five years. She then taught 3rd grade at the Fluvanna Elementary School for 26 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Jamestown; an active member of the NYS Teachers Association; and a life member of the NEA. Althea loved reading, golf, and dancing. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and much of Europe. She enjoyed the holidays and always made them special. While living at Sunset Bay for 22 years, she enjoyed many water activities.
Surviving are her husband, J. Robert Johnson whom she married July 1, 1944 in First Lutheran Church; 11 nieces and nephews, William Bremmer of Fairview, PA; Jessie Wallace of FL; Janet Willis of Akron, OH; Susan Hallin of Jamestown; Roger Sonntag of Rochester, NY; Bill Bremmer of Washington DC; Becky Shives of Lancaster, PA; John Bremmer of Jamestown; Mindy Goris of Alexandria, VA; David Bremmer of Seattle, WA; and Sandy Strack of Berea, OH.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabelle Sonntag; five brothers, Floyd, Frederick, Gerald, August, and William Bremmer; and a sister in law, Helen C. Condon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday July 1, 2010 in Memorial Chapel at First Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to visit in the church parlors following the memorial service.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
