Obituary of Sandra J. Berlin

Sandra J. Berlin, 71, of 11 Alvin James Dr. Ashville, NY, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday (March 4, 2010) in WCA Hospital. She was born February 6, 1939 in Warren, PA the daughter of the late W. Vernon and Kathryn Olson Brawdy. For several years, Sandra worked for Loose Ends Food Service at Cummins Engine Plant and Marlin Rockwell Corp., retiring five years ago. She also worked part time at Lakewood Liquor store and Bob's Liquor store, and along with her family, ran Sandy's Ceramic Shop for many years. She was a member of Harmony Senior Center; Jamestown single senior Friday night card club; Lakewood Tuesday night pinochle club; Ashville Scarlet Old Red Hatters, where she served as treasurer; and the Ashville Fire Department Auxiliary. Sandy was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and her parents. She was caregiver to her father for the last ten years of his life. She loved crafts, traveling, and playing games and cards with her friends and family. Surviving are her three children, Ricky E. (Lillian) Berlin of Eustis, FL; Rebecca (Dennis) Voty of Sugar Grove, PA; Randy (Margaret) Berlin of Busti; ten grandchildren, Rick Berlin, Robin Swanson, Sarah Straitiff, Gary Berlin, Edwin Berlin, Kevin D. Vik, Ryan Vik, Andrew Vik, Meghan Berlin, and Katheryn Berlin; seven great grandchildren; a brother, David W. Brawdy of Jamestown; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend and sister she never had, Marilyn Alexander. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin I. Berlin whom she married August 17, 1957 and who died June 24, 1966. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy J. Hoyer, pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
