Obituary of Joyce B. Benezra

Joyce B. Benezra, 82, formerly of 423 South Ave. passed away at 12:56 p.m. Monday (February 22, 2010) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident she was born June 4, 1927 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Walter and Stella Erickson Brolin. She was a graduate of the Jamestown High School Class of 1945. In earlier years she was employed as a Lab Technician at the former Malleable Iron Corp where she worked from 1945 to 1956. She had later worked for Anderson Cleaners for 10 years. She was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church, the Viking Lodge and had served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA for several years. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved to spend time cooking and baking. She also loved to spend time outdoors planting in her garden and was an avid golfer. Her grandchildren will remember her as being an "awesome" grandma. Surviving are a daughter Lisa B. (Terry) Anderson of Lakewood, a son Michael Benezra of Sinclairville, and four grandchildren Kali Simko, Lanni Simko, Rhett Simko all of Jamestown and Grant Simko of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Benezra whom she married March 9, 1956 and who died March 8, 2001, her mother, father and her step-mother Ruth Brolin who was a very important part of her life. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
