Obituary of John L. Monagan
John L. Monagan, 62, of 51 Kenmore Ave Jamestown, died at 6:33 a.m. Monday (February 15, 2010) in WCA Hospital.
He was born September 11, 1947 in Rochester, NY the son of the late Elmer J. and June Bush Monagan.
Following graduation from high school, John entered the US Army, serving in Vietnam. After his discharge, he returned to his job at Monarch Fuse, working until they closed. He then started his own TV repair service which expanded to include video rentals, and a pizza and wing restaurant, known as Monagan's Pizzeria and Video, working for many years until his retirement due to ill health.
John was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed fishing. In his younger years, he was a 10k runner. John always had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and his two faithful dogs.
Surviving are two daughters and sons in law, Kelly Jo and Richard Becker of Frewsburg; and Jamie and David Caldwell of Alexandria, NY; five grandchildren, Richie, Ryan, Nicolas, Kaitlyn, and Tyler; four sisters, Sharon Sciandra of Greensboro, NC; Nancy (Thomas) Smonskey and Cathy (Charles) Wilkes both of Jamestown; and Lora (Shawn) Zwicker of Columbus, IN.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Caldwell.
The funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Major Richard Best of the Salvation Army will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
