Obituary of Linda Diane Harrington
Linda Diane Shattuck Harrington, 67, of 100 Sunset Ave., Lakewood, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010, in WCA Hospital.
She was born October 31, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, a daughter of Loretta Wasley Shattuck and the late Keith W. Shattuck.
She graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School and attended the School of Fine Arts at Syracuse University.
Linda was employed as a staff and freelance commercial illustrator, but painting was always her main passion. Her specialty, country landscapes, evolved from a great love for animals, rural life and wide open spaces. In addition, her talent for commissioned portrait work kept her much in demand. Later in life she became actively involved with the Chautauqua County Society of Artists serving as its president for six years running and organizing the Art in the Park shows in Bemus Point and Mayville.
Surviving besides her mother, who resides in Lakewood, are two children Julie (E. Thomas) Harrington-Link of Bloomfield, NY and Tyler D. Harrington of Kenmore, NY, a granddaughter Emily M. Link, a brother Dean K. Shattuck of East Otto, a sister Elizabeth A. Shattuck-Clark of Ellicott City, MD and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her father she was preceded in death by a sister Cathy J. Hetherly.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Douglas Kibbe associate pastor of Bemus Point United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Many know of Linda's lifelong love and compassion for animals, so it was her wish that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701
