Obituary of Joan L. Murray

Joan L. Murray, 77, formerly of the Keller Road in Ashville passed away at 12:10 a.m. (Monday, February 1, 2010) in the comfort of her home at 100 Boulevard in Celoron. She was the wife of Howard R. Murray Jr. whom she married January 20, 1951 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Jamestown. Joan was born January 22, 1933 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Clarence T. and Jeanette Stroth Carlson Sr. She had formerly been employed by the Jamestown Department Store, the Driftwood Restaurant and more recently, for 20 years as a waitress by the Moon Brook Country Club. In addition to her husband, surviving are two sons, Gale A. (Debbie) Murray of Oakdale, CA and Dennis S. Murray of Celoron; three grandchildren: Leigh Anna (Richard) Cepedas of Cedar Park, TX, Shannon R. (Todd) O'Conner of Lockport, NY and Kristina Petritsh of Fremont, CA; four great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Lauren Cepedas and Brook and Morgan O'Conner; and a brother, Clarence "Bud" (Gloria) Carlson of Jamestown and sister, Clarice (Bernard) Overbeck of New Port Richey, FL. She was preceded in death by her mother on November 6, 1981 and father on May 25, 1984. A summer memorial service will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery on a date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Visitation will not be observed. Joan was under the care of Hospice and fought a courageous battle with cancer.
