Obituary of Kathryn H. Schmonsky

Kathryn H. Schmonsky, 76, of 310 Oak St. in Lakewood, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2010. She was born March 7, 1933 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred Cook Herrick, and graduated from Jamestown High School. Kathryn worked for Jamestown Mutual Insurance Company for many years. She battled Alzheimer's Disease for several years. It was an impossible task to which she never gave in. A member of Lakewood United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she was a former member of the Mt. Sinai-Mecca Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Harmony Historical Society, Fenton Historical Society and the Lakewood Women's Club. Kathryn was especially proud of her Cook-Polder heritage in the Panama area, having a great-great grandfather and his son serving in the Civil War, one in the 72nd NY Infantry Regiment and the other in the 112th NY Infantry Regiment. She loved tending her flower gardens, bird feeders and especially enjoyed cardinals and humming birds. SheKathryn will be remembered by her husband, James L. Schmonsky Jr. and her children Dr. James L. Schmonsky III of Green Bay Wisc., Jon Schmonsky of Ashville, NY and Susan Lipke of Park City, Utah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Herrick. A private family service will be held. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Lind Funeral Home.
