Obituary of Greta R. Johnston

Greta Johnston, 81, of 118 Catlin Avenue died on Thursday, December 31st in her home. A native of Jamestown, she was born September 10, 1928, a daughter of Walter and Rose Parry Patchett. She was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School, and employed at Art Metal until starting her family. After her children were grown, Mrs. Johnston worked in the offices of Dr. Richard Lisciandro, retiring after 25 years of service. She also acted as an executrix for a number of estates for friends in their later years, and tirelessly gave herself to the remaining years of her mother Rose and husband Donald. Greta was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, The Beta Omega Alpha Society, the Red Hat Rovers, and for 40 years a member of the Jamestown Women's Bowling Association. Greta Johnston was loved dearly by her entire family, her lifelong friends in club and bowling, and during her final years by the wonderful group of friends that attended Westminster Church. Her family expresses deep gratitude and thanks to our mother's special homecare givers and Hospice of Chautauqua during her final months. On December 3, 1949, Greta married Donald P. Johnston, also of Jamestown, and they were together for over 53 years until he died March 22, 2002. Mrs. Johnston is survived by her sister, Joan A. Patchett of Jamestown, by her three sons: Donn A. Johnston and wife Kathy of Lower Gwyneed PA, Robert M. Johnston and wife Sandy of Jamestown NY, and William A. Johnston and wife Cecelia of Goldsboro NC; by four grandchildren: Jennifer Ayer (Husband Matthew) of Burlington, NC, Katherine Johnston and Donn A. Johnston Jr. of Lower Gwyneed PA, and Phillip R. Johnston of Goldsboro NC; by three great grandchildren: Hudson Ayer, Weston Ayer, and Max Ayer all of Burlington NC, and friends of 65 years, George and Marie Elder. The funeral service will be held at 11am Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Cathy Basile of Hospice of Chautauqua will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1pm to 4pm Sunday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Monday.
