Obituary of Robert E. Anderson

Jamestown- Robert E Anderson, 90, of Tanglewood Manor, died Tuesday, July 6th, at W.C.A. Hospital. He was born July 21, 1919 in Ellington Township, Leach Road, son of Terry H. and Cecile Phillips Anderson. A graduate of Ellington High School, he earned a B.A. degree at Alfred University. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 1942 to June 1946 as a master gunner in anti-aircraft, a combat infantry lieutenant as platoon leader and forward artillery observer with the 104th Infantry Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe. Final duty was the Austrian occupation. Anderson was a proofreader for the Post-Journal, in time study at Marlin Rockwell, and employed at Hope's Windows, Mayville Ethan Allen, and First Presbyterian Church in Jamestown. For several years he was snare drummer with "Rube" Strickland's Old Timer's Band, and a member and pitcher with Falconer Horseshoe Club. A member of Jamestown First Baptist Church, Anderson had served as deacon and usher. Surviving are his wife, Celeste W Anderson whom he married Oct. 22, 1953 in Jamestown Pilgrim Memorial Church; three sons: Edwin (Sheila) and Quinn (Joanne), both of Jamestown, and Kyle (Michelle) of Lakewood; one daughter, Terry Lou of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Andrew Mudra of Washington D.C.; Karilyn Mudra (Chad) of Buffalo; Timothy (Jessa) Anderson of Le Roy, N.Y., and Jill (Kyle) Lueth Fort Mill, S.C.; Jessy Anderson (Connie) of Jamestown, N.Y.; Shena Anderson of Lakewood, N.Y. , and Morgan Anderson Anderson of Ashville, N.Y.; Two great-grandchildren: Hayden Robert and Alexis Rea and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorinda Mudra, and a sister, Jean McGrath. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 8, 2010 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Young, pastor of First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home.
