Obituary of Anthony Basile
Anthony Basile, 93, of 86 Howard Ave. W.E. formerly of 20 Bassett St. Jamestown passed away peacefully at 11:20 a.m. Sunday (December 27, 2009) in the Absolut Care Center of Westfield.
An area resident for most of his life he was born September 21, 1916 in Tortorici, Italy a son of the late Joseph and Mary Rose Basile.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II from June 9, 1943 to October 27, 1945. He served in General Patton's Army in England, France and Germany.
Before his retirement he was employed by the former Dahlstrom Manufacturing Company for 43 years working as wiedematic computer technician. In his earlier years he was a barber in the Jamestown area.
He was a communicant of the Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Herman Kent Post # 777 American Legion serving as Vice Commander for several years. He was a long time member of the Dahlstrom's Credit Union where he served as Treasurer and was a 50 year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was also active as a democratic committee member for many years.
He will be remembered as a loving and caring father and grandfather who loved to spend time working in his garden, playing guitar with his late brother Carlo and spending time with his family. He was adored by his grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly called him G.G. His family was his pride and joy.
Surviving are his three children Antoinette "Ann" Moren, Joseph J. (Carol) Basile both of Jamestown, Mary B. (Patrick) Tyler with whom he made his home the past 6 years in West Ellicott, seven grandchildren Chere (Scott) Collins of Rochester, NY, Diana (Phil) Pantall of Jamestown, Scott (Donna) Moren of Erie, PA, Michael (Angela) Basile of Schaumburg, IL, James (Toni) Cappano of Newark, OH, Josh Tyler of Jamestown, Mallary Tyler of Niagara Falls, NY , nine great grandchildren, two sisters Connie Gagliano of Jamestown, Carmella (Sam) Crisafulli of Messina, Italy, his devoted son in law Alan Moren and devoted caregivers Madeline DeMarco and Vicky Haskell who were like family to him.
He was preceded in death by his wife the former Grace M. Farnella Basile whom he married January 25, 1941 and who died December 6, 2003 and his brother Carlo G. Basile.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. Mende at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
