Obituary of Roger A. Carlson

Roger A. Carlson, 90, of 117 Harris Ave., died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at the Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clarence, New York. A Jamestown native, he was born June 19, 1919, a son of Oscar and Anna Carlson. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937and later from the University of Buffalo in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in business. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving in Italy and North Africa with the 5th Army as a radiologist's technician. From 1950 until his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a payroll auditor for Jamestown Mutual insurance which later became Unigard Insurance. He was confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church, was a member of Ingjald Lodge #65 IOV, and a committeeman for Troop 55, Boys Scouts of America. He was very inquisitive about the natural world, enjoyed talking politics and science, family travel, and photography. Surviving are three sons Roger "Randy" (Debra) Carlson of St. Paul, MN, Ned (Sandy) Carlson of Williamsville, NY, and Christopher (Geraldine) Carlson of Beloit, WI, ten grandchildren, a great grandson, a sister, Beverly Crandall, of Bemus Point and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joyce Danielson, whom he married October 27, 1951, and who died January 3, 2008. Friends will be received from 3-5 P. M. Wednesday December 30, in the Lind Funeral Home. No formal funeral service will be observed, however, time of remembrance will be celebrated at 5 P. M. Wednesday in the funeral home where family and friends are welcome to share a story or memory of Roger.
