Obituary of VickiJo Butler

VickiJo Butler, 55, of 277 Prospect St Jamestown died at 2:25 a.m. Monday (December 7, 2009) in her home, following a long battle with cancer. She was born March 7, 1954 in Ashville, NY the daughter of the late Gordon R. and Velva Johnson Green. In earlier years, she was employed at Lutheran Social Services and JC Penney. Following her marriage to her husband, David W. Butler on October 5, 1974, she traveled with him to the various Naval bases where he was stationed. She assumed the voluntary position of US NAVY Ombudsman at the Naval facility in Avoca, PA. As Ombudsman, she was the liaison between the military and the military spouses. She created as well as published a monthly news letter providing information ranging from news at the command level, to major changes affecting military dependant health care. Always doing for others, VickiJo was the student body appointed "GO TO MOM" for the GlenBrook South Marching Band and Color Guard. She was also the "adopted mom" to the local soldiers of the Army National Guard in Jamestown. Around the neighborhood, she was known by the grade school kids as having the coolest Halloween decorations. She enjoyed tending to her outdoor flower gardens. VickiJo was a loving wife and mother. She was the kind of person that always gave of herself when needed by family, friends, and neighbors. Surviving besides her husband, are a son, David D. Butler of Jamestown; a daughter, DawnMarie Kaylor of Shreveport, LA; five grandchildren, AlexaAnn, Amelia, Dean, Cassie, and Amber Kaylor; a sister, Tammy Goble of OH; two brothers, Lawrence Green of Watts Flats; and Christopher Green of SC. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ray Johnson. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Aaron Bjork, pastor of New Heights United Methodist Church and Stillwater United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
