Obituary of Marjorie Jean Evans
Marjorie Jean Grover Evans, 78, of 1861 New York Ave. Falconer, NY left this earth on Monday (November 16, 2009) to be with our Lord. She passed away in W.C.A. Hospital after a brief illness.
A lifelong area resident she was born March 7, 1931 in Ellington, NY a daughter of the late Albert and Rose Grover. After being orphaned in her early teen years, Marjorie set out on her own to make a better life for herself and her four brothers.
Before her retirement she was employed by the former Fenton Park Nursing Home where she was a nurse's aide for 17 years.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and loved spending time with and taking care of her family. Her family will miss her great sense of humor, as well as the delicious meals she would prepare from the food she canned.
Surviving are her husband of 37 years, David E. Evans whom she married February 25, 1972, her seven children, Tom (Janice) Hallet, Sr. of Kennedy, Judy (Norman) Yonkers, John Hallet, Sr. both of Jamestown, Cindy Orr of Kennedy, Chuck (Patty) VanGuilder of Falconer, Penny Eidson of Corry, PA, Linda (Rick) Houghwot of Frewsburg, 18 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter JoAnn Hamlet, a son William (Billy) VanGuilder, a granddaughter Christine VanGuilder, a grandson John Hallet, Jr., four brothers Donald Grover, Sr., Robert Grover, Sr., Walter Grover, Richard Grover and two son in laws, Brad Orr, Sr. and Harold Eidson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. LeRoy Walker, pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the Falconer Volunteer Fire Department.
