Obituary of Hazel A. Young
Hazel A. Young, 99, formerly of 277 Prospect St., died Wednesday October 21, 2009, in the Lutheran Home and Rehab Center.
A Jamestown native, she was born February 18, 1910, a daughter of C. Oscar and Edith Danielson Young.
She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1927 and from Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, MN in 1934.
Prior to her retirement in 1977, she was employed by Blackstone Corporation for 42 years as a clerk in the billing department. She had earlier worked for Jamestown Metal Desk from 1927 to 1932.
She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church and its Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Kuples and Singles Club and the Deaconess Society. Her other memberships include Fenton Historical Society, Marvin Community House, American Scandinavian Society and AARP.
Surviving are a sister Hazel Arlene Norberg of Jamestown and nieces and nephews Janice Conrad of Lawrence, KS, Sandra Gorham of Argyle, TX, John E. Young of Canal Winchester, OH, Kristine Andrews of Frewsburg, NY, David A. Swanson of Webster, NY, Mary E. Whitehead of West Palm Beach, FL, Mark A. Young of Frewsburg, Jane L. Young of Falconer, Craig D. Norberg of Beacon, NY and Clark D. Norberg of Wappinger Falls, NY.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Gladys Swanson in 1996 and Violet Young in 2003, two brothers Leverne Young in 1953 and Alton Young in 1998 and a nephew Daniel K. Swanson in 2001.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Chapel of First Lutheran Church.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the Fellowship Room of the church.
