Obituary of Francis J. Gore

Francis J. Gore, 92, formerly of Jamestown and Glen Allen, VA, died at 5:10 a.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was the husband of the late Constance "Connie" Middaugh Gore, who he married January 27, 1938 and who died October 17, 2001. One of five brothers, Francis was born August 22, 1917 in Port Jervis, NY, a son of the late Harry and Sara Lyons Gore. He was a World War II veteran serving as a bombardier in the 1035th Air Combat Unit and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, American Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Francis was employed for many years by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad which became Conrail and retired as a foreman in 1982. Surviving is a daughter, Sally (John) Stravato of Jamestown and granddaughter, Stephanie (Steven) Heath of Glen Ellen, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Gene, Harry and Will Gore. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
