Obituary of Esther L. Tubbs

Esther Grace Tubbs, 91, formerly of 6 Loretta Ave. in Jamestown, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 16, 1919 in Lamberton, NY, a daughter of the late Fred and Fern Guest Lowell, and graduated from Fredonia High School. Esther attended beauty school in Buffalo to become a beautician. She was an avid traveler, visiting all National State Parks. She was also a ham radio operator, having built her own radio rig. She enjoyed gardening, raising beautiful flowers, reading, opera and classical music. She also loved playing board and card games, assembling jigsaw puzzles with her family and was an avid NASCAR fan. Esther is survived by a daughter, Margarete Downey of Brockport, NY; two sons, Lawrence (Ann) Tubbs of Huntsville, AL and LeRoy "Bud" Tubbs Sr. of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Craig, Tim, Theresa, LeRoy Jr., Elizabeth, Patrick, Gina and Stokes; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Elbert and James Lowell; brother-in-law James Phelps; many nieces and nephews; her dear friend and neighbor Betty Trippi and childhood friend, Beverly (Harold) Prince. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Blake Tubbs who died September 27, 1985; a brother, Bryant Lowell and sister, Gladys Irene Phelps; two aunts, Ruby and Blanche Guest; and a grandson, Eric Downey. A graveside memorial service to remember, honor and celebrate Esther's life will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery, Fredonia, NY.
