Obituary of Donald W. Larson

Donald W. Larson, 85, formerly of Madden Road, Panama and 191 Front Street, Lakewood died at 12:10 a.m. Saturday (August 22, 2009) at the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident all his life, he was born February 10, 1924 in Jamestown, the son of William and Marie (Bloomstrand) Larson. He went to school in Celoron and Lakewood and graduated in 1942 from Lakewood High School where he played basketball and football. Don served his country as an aviator machinist's mate in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945. Don's interests included golfing, bowling, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. He received a business degree from Jamestown Business College and retired as treasurer of Weber Knapp Company after 36 years. Surviving are his wife, Carol K. Larson, whom he married Jun 8, 1945; four children: Steven D. (Linda) Larson of Nineveh IN; Gregory J. (Becky) Larson of Cookeville, TN; Deborah J. (Patrick) Weaver of Fountain, CO and Jodie C. Gould of Ashville; thirteen grandchildren: Scott (Courtney) Larson, Indianapolis, IN; Christopher (Dayna) Larson, Medina MN; Jeremy (Sara) Larson, Morgantown, IN; Jason (Dena) Larson, Asheville, NC; Brian (Vaughan) Larson, Cookeville, TN; Jeanne (Heath) Williams, Jonesboro, AR; Stephanie (Kris) Adkins, Kevin Grey, and Nathan (Michelle) Grey all of Colorado Springs, CO; Katherine (Philip) Crabtree of Killeen TX; Eric (Laurie) Griffin, Panama NY; Ashley Matthews, Jamestown, NY and Heather Matthews, Ellsworth AFB, SD and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Jack Larson, and two sisters, Joyce Atkins and Carol Lawler. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, American Legion Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 where he served on the firing squad, and Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy J. Hoyer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
