Obituary of MaryJane Carlson

MaryJane Carlson, 81, formerly of 3044 Johnson Road, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Wallace O. "Wally" Carlson, whom she married October 19, 1946 and who died February 14, 1994. MaryJane was born December 12, 1927 in Ridgeway, Pa., a daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Olson Anderson, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1945. For 30 years she handled office duties for her husband's business, Wally Carlson Plumbing. In earlier years, she had worked in the greenhouse of Lakeview Gardens. She belonged to the Chautauqua County Humane Society and was a board member of the former Chautauqua County Board of Mental Health. An accomplished artist, MaryJane enjoyed oil painting and worked on many art projects throughout the area over the years. She was always extremely close to her sister, Doris L. Anderson. In addition to her sister of West Ellicott, surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Carlson of Granite Falls, WA and Cathleen Kelly of Lakewood, NY; a son, Mark Carlson of Jamestown and Port Orange, FL; and two granddaughters, Katelyn Carlson of Jamestown and Rachel Carlson of California. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
