Obituary of Steven Showers

Steven Showers, 69, of 864 67th Street South, St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Lakewood, died at 12:36 a.m. Thursday (July 16, 2009) in WCA Hospital. A Florida resident since 1988, he was born November 1, 1939 in Meadville, PA and graduated from Southwestern Central School in 1957. He later served in the National Guard at Fort Dix, New Jersey during 1960. Steven was a retired police officer for the Town of Busti. Surviving is a daughter, Darla (Michael) Kiernan and two grandchildren, Brian and Meredith Kiernan of St. Petersburg; and two sisters, Nancy Pavlac of Parrotsville, TN and Donna Swavey of Cambridge Springs, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Hayes Showers; his mother, Geraldine Showers Chest; and foster parents Ralph and Carrie Smock and their daughter, Helen Webb. Steve loved boating, nice cars and summer visits to Jamestown. Finishing the restoration of his boat and teaching his grandchildren to fish were the things he looked forward to most. He will be memorialized on the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. No local funeral service or visitation will be observed.
