Obituary of Martha N. Green
Martha N. Green, 70, of 36 Chestnut St. passed on at 3:00 p.m. Friday (July 10, 2009) in her home in the company of family and friends following an extended illness.
An area resident for most of her life she was born November 23, 1938 in Augusta, GA a daughter of the late Roy S. and Maude Tuten Wilfong.
She was a 1956 graduate of The Academy of Richmond County in Augusta, GA. She married Lowell Green on February 4, 1956 and relocated to Blockville, NY where they worked in the family business at Green Brother's Lumber and began raising their family.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Cummins Engine Company working in the Human Resources Department for over 20 years. She was responsible for accommodating customers visits and handling of employee benefits. She had also worked as a Secretary for the Christ First United Methodist Church for several years.
She was a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church, the Harmony Historical Society, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and the Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings. In earlier years she had attended the Blockville United Methodist Church.
She will be remembered as one who loved to paint, loved to play bridge and was known as a world traveler. Amongst other locations she traveled to Europe, Morocco, Nova Scotia, China, East Asia and throughout the western United States. She also loved to care for animals, especially her beloved cat BoBo.
Surviving are two daughters Debbie (Tim) Field of Blockville, NY, Amy (Craig) Jensen of Ashville, NY, two sons Matthew Green of Jamestown, NY, John (Sunny) Green of Frewsburg, NY, two grandchildren, Amanda Jensen of Ashville, Jaimie Green of Frewsburg and her sister Patricia Ochiltree of North Augusta, SC.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Cecil Thornton.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Christ First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Douglas M. Knopp, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Blockville Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
