Obituary of Robert A. Kron
Robert A. Kron, 84, of 269 Howard Ave WE, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday (June 23, 2009) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing facility.
He was born September 5, 1924 in Jamestown the son of Axel Nelander and Svea Elizabeth Holmstrom Kron.
Bob was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and a US Navy veteran serving in the Pacific during WWII. For 32 years, he worked at Dawson Metal, retiring in 1988. In 1972, Bob was elected to the Chautauqua County Legislature for the Town of Ellicott. He served a total of ten years, from 1972-1977, 1980, 1981, and 1990-1991. As a legislator, he served as Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittee of Environmental Affairs Lake Problems, Chairman, South Flood Committee, Vice Chairman of South Sewer District, he sponsored a physician recruitment program for Chautauqua County, was Chairman of the Airport Commission, and served on the Social Services Committee, Judicial Committee, Public Safety Committee, and the Parks Commission.
He was an active Red Cross donor and a member of the Century Club, having donated over 100 units, and also was a driver for the Red Cross. Bob was confirmed in 1939 at First Lutheran Church, and in 1948, joined Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board and as a trustee. He was also a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion; Celoron/WE Senior Citizens; and a life member of the Vikings.
Bob loved his grandchildren and he loved to garden. Every year in his basement, he started seeds in flats, growing various flowers and vegetables, giving some vegetables to his neighbors. He built his own home which his wife and children shared with him since 1956. He and his wife loved to travel, twice visiting Honolulu, Hawaii where he had served in the Navy.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Joyce Rahm Kron whom he married August 28, 1948; a daughter, Shelley Ann Kron of Oneida, NY; a grandson, Matthew Benton Nau of Denver, CO; a son in law, Vance James (Valerie) Nau Jr., and two step grandchildren, Allison Nicole Nau and Gregory James Nau, all of Cupertino, CA.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee Kron Nau who died April 11, 1981; and two brothers, Lavern W. Kron who died in 1994; and Stanley Kron who died in 1923.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick LaDue, pastor of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
