Obituary of Helen G. Bentley
Helen G. Bentley, 85, of 8 Crane St., formerly of 16 Johnson St., died at 12:20 a.m. Friday (June 19, 2009) in her home with her family by her side.
An area resident for over 50 years she was born August 6, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late Gaetano and Caroline Vitello DelSorbo.
Helen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II and prior to her retirement was employed by the Marlin Rockwell Corporation for over 20 years.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who was very devoted to her family and friends. She loved to play bingo, scrabble and in earlier years loved to travel with her husband. She was also an avid New York Met fan.
Surviving are three daughters Cecelia A.(Nathan Garfinkel) Bentley of Massapequa, NY, Diane E. (Joe) Reale, Donna M. Bentley both of Jamestown, two sons Frederick C.R.(Linda) Bentley of Jamestown, Thomas A.(Linda) Bentley of Longwood, FL, eleven grandchildren Sarah Hicks of Canton, NY, David Bentley Garfinkel of Massapequa, NY, Kristin Reale, Kimberly Reale both of Vero Beach, FL, Jeremy Bentley Sampson, Theresa Russo, Richard Bentley, Patrick Bentley all of Jamestown, Andrew Constantino of New Mexico, Thomas P. Bentley of Gainesville, FL, Carolyn A. Bentley of Altamonte Springs, FL and eleven great grandchildren.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard S. Bentley whom she married in October of 1946 and who died October 8, 2004 and six brothers and 2 sisters.
A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph M. Dowdell will officiate. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
