Obituary of Ruth K. Battler

DELRAY BEACH, FLA. - Ruth K. Battler, 91, of 1070 SW 20th Terrace, formerly of Jamestown, died Friday, June 5, 2009 in the Delray Medical Center. She was the widow of Dr. Milton D. Battler whom she married January 8, 1942 and who died July 14, 2000. A Jamestown resident since 1946 and Florida since 1986, Ruth was born May 23, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Abraham and Jenny Silverman Kaplan. She was a member of Temple Hesed Abraham. Although her formal schooling ended with high school, she taught her family and others more about what was important in life than anyone else. She always said, "Give 100% and what will be, will be". Her passion in life was her family and she left them knowing that baby Jenna was alive and well. Surviving is a son, Bruce D. (Juline Raynor) Battler of Jamestown and daughter, Barbara B. (Gene) Schwartz of West Ellicott; three grandchildren: Susan J. Battler of Denver, CO, Andrea S. (Craig) Rigney of W. Henrietta, NY and Sandra (Todd Ordan) Schwartz of Victor, NY; five step grandchildren: R. Jackson Rohm of Lakewood, OH, Amy M. (Mike) Brinkley of Stedman, NY, Emily Raynor of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth Raynor of Rochester, NY and Molly Hill of Jamestown; and two great granddaughters, Jenna Michelle Rigney and Madison Rose Hill. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Jack Kaplan. The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rabbi Allen Podet will officiate. Burial will be in Beth-El Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, Ruth's family asks that memorials be made to Temple Hesed Abraham, 215 Hall Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701; or to Hadassah, 50 W. 58th St., New York, NY 10019.
