By a letter from Vivian the sad news of cousin Elsie's death reached us here in Sweden. We had a long standing and fine contact through letters and cards on birthdays and holidays, which we appreciated very much. Even photos of relatives were sent between us and it was almost like meeting in real life.
The memory of Elsie lives on strong with us. Rest in peace Elsie together with your dear Gordon!
Dear greetings from Elsy with family, Rune, Ulf and Jan
A small additional message from me that visited You many years ago and got to experience your hospitality. Take care / Ulf

Dear Valerie and family,
My sister, Peggy, read in the paper (too late to attend the service) that your mother passed away. Please know that the entire Laird family is saddened to hear of her passing. She was such a gem of a person. I would LOVE to have a copy of her recipe box! She not only had a great reputation as a baker. She was renowned for her creative skills - so very artistic! - and her selfless efforts at keeping in touch with friends and family through letters. My parents (Jack and Ina Laird from Cedar Ave.) always loved getting her letters and updates on the family. I am so sorry Elsie is no longer with us. I meant to write to her and tell her how much I appreciated her keeping in touch with my folks. Now I will thank her in my prayers. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Our deepest sympathy to you, Valerie and all of your family. Our family was together this weekend and we recalled many happy memories of Elsie and Gordon and the wonderful impact they both had on our lives. The girls remembered the beautifully designed cookies, the kind words when they came home from school and all the fun art projects they did together. We loved the Swedish hymn that escorted us to church through the parking lot. Elsie helped us so much over the years and we keep her memory special. She was wonderful to write letters and keep us up on all of you. Keep her in your heart and let her spirit live on through you. Bless you. The Goldman family

So sorry to hear about your Mom Valerie. I don't know if you remember me but we all had some great times together! Your Mom was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I don't live in Jamestown anymore but I am grateful for the opportunity to light a candle for your Mom. I will pray for you and your family to get through this very difficult time. Roseann

Sorry for the loss of your mother. I will always remember the wonderful cookies she baked for school. She used to decorate them with the little silver balls. I used to think they were bbs and didn't dare to eat them when we were in kindergarten. A little later I figured out they were eatable. My heart goes out to you and your family.

As said many time before the world has lost a wonderful person. Elsie has been a special person in my life. She was one of my girl scout leaders whitch I thanked her many times for the things she had tought me as a Girl Scout. We always enjoyed her cookies. I remember in school I always wanted to be in Valerie's room because I know her mom would make the cookies. Yum Yum Her talents were all so great she was very artistic and always had a smile on her face. She will be greatly missed by all and my thoughts and prayers are with you Valerie and your family.

The world has lost a truly wonderful lady . I have known Elsie my entire life. When I was born she made a bank for me with my name and birth date painted on it. Every once in awhile she would make me a birdhouse or craft of some sort and I have truly treasured them over the years and will continue to for the rest of my life. My son , Lee , came to know her as a "second Grandma".Not a holiday or birthday of his would go by without a special letter and hand crafted card from Elsie. She could not know how much that meant to us , because Lee lost his paternal Grandmother long before he was even born. She was a very special lady , indeed . I will miss her , her laugh , and her beautiful smile. I will miss all the stories that she told me of her childhood and of her growing up in Jamestown , and I will hold them dear to my heart. She will never be forgotten. I love her and always will...

To Val and Family-Aunt Elsie was such a special lady. Mom would send us the Holiday cookbooks from the newspaper, and she would always have several in there, usually winners! We always looked forward to her special almond bars, and hid some for ourselves before sharing with the rest of the family.
I'm sure she is so happy to be reunited with "Uncle Gorgeous".
Our love and deepest sympathy to all of you. We're so glad we were able to all be together this summer.

Aww...gram. I am so blessed that we were able to spend the day together friday. We had such a good talk that day. If only I had known that would be the last words we would share. I will miss you so much in so many ways...but I take comfort in knowing that you are with grandpa...right where you belong. I love you...my "witch grandma." From one Linnea to another.
