Obituary of Concetta B. Gagliano
Concetta B. Gagliano, 91, of 51 Falconer Street, died at 4:17 p.m. Saturday (September 25, 2010) in WCA Hospital.
She was the widow of Samuel F. Gagliano Jr. whom she married at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown on November 23, 1940 and who died August 12, 1976.
Concetta was born in Tortorici, Sicily on January 4, 1919, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Rosa Basile, and came to Jamestown in 1929.
She owned and operated Bardo's Liquor Store in Jamestown, following her husband's death, until her retirement in 2006. In earlier years she had been employed by the former W.T. Grant Co.
A communicant of Ss Peter & Paul Church, she had formerly belonged to the Marco Polo Club Auxiliary.
Concetta loved flowers and caring for her garden. She always looked forward to seeing friends and customers whenever she was out. Her greatest joy, though, was her grandsons.
Surviving is a daughter, Josephine A. (Mark) Graves of Jamestown; two grandsons, Marc Andrew Graves of Jamestown and Stephen James Graves of Pittsburgh; a sister, Carmella (Salvatore) Crisafulli of Messina, Italy; and several nieces and nephews throughout the country.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Basile on December 27, 2009 and Carlo Basile on June 29, 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 1:45 p.m.
