Obituary of Duane C. Johnson

Duane C. Johnson, 97, formerly of 525 Stowe St. passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday (October 8, 2010) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident he was born June 5, 1913 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Charles and Cora Petrie Johnson. He was a 1934 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Before his retirement in 1978, he was employed as a salesman for the former Sunshine Biscuit Company for 36 years. Following his retirement he worked at the former Super Duper Supermarket for several years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the couples club of First Lutheran. In earlier years he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Falconer where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Ira Lou Spring Post # 149 American Legion, the Thule Lodge # 127 VASA Order of America, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and a longtime member of the Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings. He will be remembered as an avid sports fan who loved watching the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. He also played YMCA Basketball for several years. Surviving are two sons Scott M. (Brenda) Johnson, Jeffrey K. (Stephanie) Johnson both of Jamestown, six grandchildren Jennifer Beebe, Shelby Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Heather Potter all of Jamestown, Erin McGee of Cleveland, OH, Kerry Potter-Gydosh of Wyoming, PA and three great grandchildren Luke Beebe, Nathan Beebe and Sophia McGee. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Helen "Johnnie" Swanson Johnson whom he married November 22, 1947 and who died May 2, 1996, a daughter JoLynne R. Johnson who died December 21, 2003, two sisters Mildred Shaffer, Neoma Berg and a brother Kenneth P. Johnson. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan W. Anderson, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
