Obituary of Betty Jane Brown

Betty Jane Brown, 85, of 217 Howard Ave. W.E. passed away at 7:20 a.m. Friday (October 8, 2010) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident she was born March 25, 1925 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Ninus and Esther Ellison Almgren. She was a graduate of the former Bemus Point High School. She was a longtime member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron, The Celoron Golden Agers and was a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also loved golf, bowling and playing bingo in earlier years. Surviving are her husband of 66 years, James A. Brown whom she married July 6, 1944, a son David A. (Cindy) Brown of Frewsburg, NY, two daughters Karen E. (Lloyd) Frary of Ashville, NY, Kathy L. Nunn of Jamestown, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a sister Joyce Dunn of Wolverine, MI. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Gerald "Wally" Almgren, a sister Delores Anderson, an infant son Jeffrey Lynn Brown and her son in law Steve Nunn. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick LaDue, pastor of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd.
