Veronica M. Babyak Jackson
Veronica M. (Ronnie) Jackson died on Friday (October 8, 2010) at the Presbyterian Home of Central NY in New Hartford, NY, close to her daughter where she has lived for 6 years, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.
Ronnie was born in Sheffield, Pa on January 8, 1924, the daughter of Michael and Rose Babyak.
She married LeRoy Jackson on June 8, 1947 and they lived in Celoron and Lakewood, NY for more than 50 years. Roy died on July 8, 2003. Ronnie worked in the defense industry at the airport during W.W. II and retired from Quality Markets after many years of service.
Ronnie is survived by her daughter, Julie Shankman of Clinton, NY; her son, James L. Jackson of Indian Land, SC; five grandchildren: Molly Adams of Steilacoom, WA, Annie Hartmann of Redmond, WA, James C. Jackson of Philadelphia, PA, and Erika and Hannah Shankman of Clinton, NY: and two great-grandchildren Jayden Veronica Adams of Steilacoom, WA and Eloise Faith Hartmann of Redmond, WA.; as well as other family members in the nearby NY and PA area.
Ronnie is preceded in death by her husband Roy, her sisters Rosie, Margaret, Mary, and Irene and brothers Joe, Johnny and Steve. Ronnie was the last living sibling of a family of 8 children.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12 in the Lind Funeral Home. Msgr. Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, where Ronnie attended, will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery next to her husband and near many family members, at a time to be determined.
Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 11 in the Lind Funeral Home.
Special thanks go out to the professional and compassionate staff in the Elm Parkinson's Unit as well as the ancillary and support services in the Presbyterian Home for all of their wonderful efforts of working to have Ronnie maintain a quality of life surrounded by people who genuinely care.
